Ostriches in Virginia? Really?
Last March we were driving around Virginia near the Dulles Airport. The far outreaches of the airport. Near the farms and woods. And a wild turkey flew in front of the car out of nowhere. A wild turkey! What a big giant bird. Or at least that’s what we thought at the time.
A few miles down the road we come across a cattle farm. No big deal and nothing strange. Right? Wrong. There was an ostrich and an emu in with the cows in the pasture. Could you imagine what a cowstrich would look like?
So we got out of the car and took pictures. The birds were pretty close to the fence and the cows were a little further into the pasture. Once we got several pictures of the birds they started walking away. So we tried to call them back. Instead the cows started running towards us. Thank goodness that there was a fence between us and the cows. And as we walked down the fence, the cows followed us. We must have smelled like hay or grass or whatever cows eat.
Anyway, I haven’t worked on those pictures yet. But I should be doing that soon. So keep an eye out for your local cowstrich.
